Shawano County libraries urging card sign-ups

The Shawano County Library system is holding drawings and cutting library fines during Library Card Sign-Up Month, which runs Sept. 1-30 at the Shawano County Library. Library cards are available to patrons of all ages. To open a library account and receive a library card, go to library branches in Shawano, Bonduel, Wittenberg, Birnamwood, Tigerton or Mattoon with a picture ID and proof of current address. The library is offering 50% off fines, which does not include fees or bills on lost items. There will also be free replacement cards, which are usually $3, as well as prize drawings throughout September. Patrons, both adults and children, may enter for prize drawings every time they visit the library. Prize winners will be selected at the end of September. Library Card Sign-Up Month has been celebrated each September since 1987 to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries work together nationally to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.
