One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash Aug. 4 on state Highway 29 in the Town of Hartland.
About 12:55 p.m., the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department dispatch center received multiple 911 calls indicating there was a two-vehicle crash with unknown injuries on Highway 29, just outside Doc’s Harley Davidson, which is just west of County Road F.
Upon arrival, officials found that one of the vehicles’ occupants was not conscious and not breathing. A deputy, along with assistance from a citizen, began CPR on that woman. CPR was continued, but unfortunately, due to the injuries sustained in this crash, the woman was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The initial investigation showed the woman was a passenger in a vehicle that was exiting Doc’s Harley Davidson, attempting to go west on Highway 29. The driver of the vehicle failed to clear the intersection and was struck by an eastbound vehicle on the rear driver’s side of the vehicle. Both vehicles continued into the median of the highway, where they came to rest.
All occupants in the vehicle headed eastbound on Highway 29 were OK, according to a sheriff’s department press release. The driver of the at-fault vehicle sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. The passenger, who was deceased, was identified as an 80-year-old woman from the Shawano area. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
This crash is still under investigation. At this time, the name of the deceased will not be released, and no further information is available, according to the sheriff’s department.
The department was assisted during the crash by Shawano Ambulance, Bonduel EMS, Bonduel Fire Department and the Shawano County Coroner’s Office.
