The big ribbon cutting for all of the renovations done over the summer at Shawano Community High School originally scheduled for Sept. 1 has been pushed back to Sept. 26.
The ribbon cutting is now scheduled for 10 a.m. at the school, followed by self-guided tours beginning at 10:30 a.m. The event will be on the same day as the Hawks homecoming game against Fox Valley Lutheran, which starts at 1 p.m..
Superintendent Kurt Krizan said the ribbon cutting’s delay is due to classrooms not yet being ready. He noted the new date will also give alumni visiting the area a chance to see the improvements.
“Shawano Community High School staff were not able to return to the building as early as anticipated, which limited the time they had to prepare and personalize their classrooms for the 2026-27 school year,” Krizan said in a press release. “Our staff take great pride in their schools and our community. They want their classrooms and learning spaces to showcase the exciting upgrades made possible through the community’s support. By postponing the ribbon cutting, we are giving our staff the additional time they requested to make their classrooms ready to welcome the community.”
Krizan added that the delay in the ribbon cutting will not keep other activities from taking place. Back-to-school night will still happen Sept. 1 at all the schools. The first day of school will be Sept. 9, with a transition day planned for Sept. 8 for students new to the district and those transitioning to a new school.
