Gresham Community School
FFA had a meeting/steak fry in Jeff Zobeck’s room Monday. Dues were paid — $15 for a membership and $25 for a membership and T-shirt. The meeting’s goal was to recruit new people to join FFA, which is open to students in grades 6-12.
Homework club is looking for tutors to help out from 7-8 a.m and 3-5 p.m. Ben Dieck has forms to be filled out.
Anyone interested in drama club or the spring musical are asked to see Amy Doefer in her room. They are having auditions sometime in the winter, and they are doing the first-ever musical for Gresham School this year.
The Home and School Association elected new officers: Kimberly Tejeda, president; Jodi Surprise, secretary; Tiffany Ferguson, treasurer; Carrie Bohl, event coordinator; Kristen Reinke, faculty liaison; Annette Ejnik (Pa’s) and Ann Bouher (Town Mart), community liaisons; Keary Mattson and Jessica Lepak, communications coordinators. The association is still looking for a vice president, so any faculty or parent interested should come to the group’s meeting at 6 p.m., Sept. 26.
Menominee Tribal School
The school year is off to a grand start, albeit a little later than usual, at Menominee Tribal School. The remodeling and parking lot reconstruction took somewhat longer than projected, so students began school on Sept. 8. There will be an open house on Oct. 2 during Parent Night to tour the new offices and two new classrooms. Everyone is very excited about the changes to our school.
The first three days last week were spent acclimating the students, new and old, with reminders about positive behavior practices. A special emphasis this year is voice level. Posters in designated areas show the proper voice level for that area. Voice levels progress from zero sound in hallways during classes to a four when outdoors.
Menominee Tribal School wishes to acknowledge two donations. The Brener Youthful Workers, under the direction of Sarah Magee, raised funds, and bought and filled 22 backpacks to be distributed for those who needed them. Patrice Jeffries, of the West Allis campus of Milwaukee Area Technical College, office of student life, brought $400 worth of school supplies to the school. We are so very so grateful and say “Maec Waewaenon,” thank you, to these most generous people.
MAPS testing began Monday and will continue into next week.
Wolf River Lutheran High School
Wolf River Lutheran High School year is under way. We welcome our new staff, Caroline Bedroske, Llewellyn Kramer and Lucas Bedroske. Our cross-country team has been practicing and meets have started. We are looking forward to a successful season.
The Wolf River Choir will be singing at local churches throughout the year.
We have two exciting events coming up.
On Oct. 11, we will be hosting our annual Family Fun Fair and auction. This year we’ll be having a soup and sandwich lunch, carnival games, and silent and live auctions. Doors open at 11 a.m.
On Nov. 11, we are hosting dinner and a speaker at the Gathering at 5 p.m. The speaker is NASA’s award-winning astronaut, Jerry L. Ross. He holds NASA’s most frequent flyer award and many other awards. He is the author of two books. Come and enjoy the evening with us. For more information and ticket locations, call 715-745-2400.
Sacred Heart Catholic School
Our school came together, just as many other Americans, to remember and celebrate the lives of those lost on Sept. 11. We realize that only a handful of our students were alive during the attacks on that day, but the significance is important to all of us. Our middle school students presented a special remembrance of what our freedom means to us. We sang together, prayed together and enjoyed learning what God’s dream is for all of us. We are extremely grateful to the members of the local vets association for presenting the color guard for us during our prayer service.
The parents of our Home and School had their first meeting and have some exciting things planned for our school family. They are welcoming new members, especially the over 20 new families that have joined our school. They will be hosting their first Bingo night Saturday from 5:30-8 p.m. in the church basement. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase. Everyone from the community is welcome to come out and play no matter what your age!
Our school has gone through some exciting changes for this school year. We received a large grant to update our current technology and our entire campus has gone Google. Contact information has changed for all of our staff members at the school and the parish. Olga Brener Intermediate School
The school year is well under way and off to a great start! Students at Brener started their school year with PBIS instruction from our guidance staff, educating the students on the behavior expectations here and how to Learn, Live and Lead the Hawk Way.
There are a few new faces here: Abby Behnke, fifth grade, Brittney Firari, fifth grade, and Hannah Molitor, fifth grade. Please take a moment to welcome them if you get a chance.
Olga Brener staff would like to see all students do well at school. It has been proved that poor attendance at the early levels greatly impacts the overall success of children. Please make sure to have your child at school and at school on time. Our starting time at Brener has changed to 8:10 a.m., please have your child here by that time.
