With the elves busy preparing Santa’s sleigh for his anticipated midnight ride on Christmas Eve, Santa will use a local fire truck when he and Mrs. Claus make their appearance at the Shawano Santa Parade on Dec. 6.
The 30th annual parade will begin at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by Charlie’s County Market. Organizers have announced plans for the event that will have the theme of “An Old-Fashioned Christmas.”
The staging area for floats will be available at 4:30 p.m. on Elizabeth Street. Lineup begins at 5 p.m. Parade units will start at Elizabeth and Main streets, proceed north on Main Street to Green Bay Street, turn west to Washington Street and then turn south to end at Franklin Park.
Attendees cannot park on Elizabeth Street before or during the parade. There’s also no parking or blocking the Popp’s Ball Park Diner or South Forty parking lots.
There will be no parking on Main Street from 4-9 p.m.
Trophies will be awarded in each of the following categories — Best Use of Theme, Best Nonprofit Entry, Best Children’s Entry, Best Business Entry and People’s Choice.

Small Business Saturday will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 30.
The Holly Jolly Trolley will run from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Trolley stops include Bottle House Antiques (701 S. Main St.), The Naberhood (214 S. Main St.), GENEX parking lot (northeast corner of Green Bay and Main streets) and Glas/Cellcom (511 N. Main St.). Trolley rides are free, courtesy of the city of Shawano.
Music and treats will be available from 3-5 p.m. at Franklin Park, with the tree lighting set for 5 p.m. Enjoy Christmas music, hot chocolate and sweet treats while you stroll through the 100 decorated Christmas trees and visit with Santa and his reindeer.
