Robert Konitzer

Robert Konitzer, 70, Lena, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at a Green Bay hospital from complications of surgery. He was born Oct. 18, 1943, in Oconto Falls to George and Irene (VanHaren) Konitzer. Robert grew up in rural Oconto Falls, where he attended St. Anthony Catholic School and Oconto Falls High School, graduating in 1962. He married Sandra Mellinger, and they had four children together. On April 15, 1981, he married Sherri Braun in Oconto. Robert lived most of his life in Oconto County, where he worked construction and in area cheese factories. He was a proud member of the first wrestling team at Oconto Falls High School 53 years ago and was recently recognized by the team for his long and loyal support. Robert was very fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to follow their sporting events and take them on four-wheeler rides. Survivors are his wife, Sherri Konitzer, Lena; five children, Robert Thor “Tory” (Michele) Konitzer, Chelmsford, Mass.; Kandace “Kandy” Konitzer, Gillett; Kimberly “K.C.” (Robert) Brion, Elkhart Lake; Jamie (Pattie) Braun, De Pere; Adam (Renee) Konitzer, Saukville; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his siblings, Chester (Barbara) Konitzer, Oconto Falls; Fred (Janice) Konitzer, Gillett; Georgia Grenke, Oconto Falls; Gary (Cookie) Konitzer, Wausaukee; Norene (Gary) Vorpahl, Pound; Peter (Barb) Konitzer, Abrams; Blaine (Debbie) Konitzer, Stiles; Phillip (Cheryl) Konitzer, Sam (Cindy) Konitzer, Chris (Bert) Williquette, all of Oconto Falls; three sisters-in-law, Carol “Cookie” Konitzer, Abrams; Rosie “Tootie” Konitzer, Popple River; Julie Konitzer, Oconto Falls; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George Jr., Wayne, John and Curt Konitzer; one brother-in-law, Arlin Grenke; his in-laws, Bill and Marion Jaeger; and special sister-in-law, Sandy Jaeger. Visitation was held Sunday and Monday at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Cremation followed, with burial of the urn in the church cemetery. The Konitzer family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the sixth floor at St. Vincent Hospital for the wonderful care and consideration shown them and their beloved Robert.
