The Shawano School District, in conjunction with its Title VI program, is having its first-ever pow wow Nov. 23 at the Shawano Community High School gymnasium, 220 County Road B.
Doors open at 11 a.m., with grand entry at noon and finishing at 3 p.m. The free event is open to everyone.
The pow wow is an opportunity to connect and experience a pow wow in an experiential way that creates dialogue and bonds for everyone in the Shawano community.
During the pow wow, the district will be working with Life Church of Shawano to collect non-perishable food items for local district families for Thanksgiving.
Several high school clubs will be selling food to support their programs. The culture club will be selling Indian Tacos. The baking club will be selling baked goods. Student council will be selling candy, soda and water. Title VI will be selling fry bread, chili, Menominee hull corn soup, wild rice casserole, and wild rice and berries.
Prizes donated by local businesses will be given during the pow wow’s spot, potato, feather, swan and fish dances.
Honor songs will be performed for the high school’s state volleyball, soccer and cross-country programs.
Those wearing regalia can receive a gift card — $5 for the tiny tots and junior categories, $10 for teens and $20 for adults and above.
