Two new faces will be welcomed to the Oconto County Board following the April 7 election.
In District 9, Joseph Porior, of the Town of Morgan, defeated Carl Blahnik, of Abrams, 192-135. Porior will replace Jolene Barkhaus, who opted not to run again.
In District 29, Brenda Carey-Mielke beat Cody Schaal, both of Mountain, 197-157. The seat was previously held by David Van Zeeland, who resigned from his seat in October.
For the Gillett School Board, challengers Nicole Blaskowski and Elizabeth Telford won with 550 and 522 votes respectively. Challenger Ben Korth garnered 474 votes, while incumbent Jamie J. Heroux picked up 434 votes.
In the Oconto Falls School District, incumbent Emilie Trudell and challenger Misty Gilbertson were elected, while challenger Brandon Martzke placed third in a race to fill two seats.
The district crosses county lines. Trudell earned 1,660 votes, followed by Gilbertson’s 1,405 and Martzke’s 1,149.
Carrie Hill opted not to seek reelection.
In the race for a seat on the Suring School Board, incumbent Ron Christensen defeated challenger Michael Nicola to represent the towns of Bagley, Maple Valley and Spruce 868-274.
In the Wisconsin Supreme Court, won statewide by Chris Taylor, Maria Lazar prevailed in Oconto County, 6,166-4,432.
Are results are unofficial.
There were 10,796 ballots issued in the county, including 1,430 absentee ballots. Based on an estimated voting age population of 31,516, voter turnout was at 34%.
