The Oconto Falls High School greenhouse will be open from May 8-17 for its annual plant sale. Hours are from 3:30-5 p.m. weekdays, May 8 and 11-15, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 9 and 16, and Sunday, May 17.
Vegetables, geraniums, spikes, begonias, petunias, sweet potato vines and other plants will be available.
The greenhouse management class, along with a few volunteers, have been preparing the greenhouse for the sale. Students learned how to plant seeds, transplant plants and take proper care of the plants.
“I really enjoyed being able to transplant all of the plants and seeing the progress of the plants’ growth throughout the semester,” senior Denisha Hurning said. “It is awesome how beautiful it all turned out.”
According to senior Aaron Stuiber, student involvement in the sale is up from last year.
“More students were able to make more management decisions, including advertising and marketing for this year’s sale,” he said.
The class created fliers to display in the city, signs to put by streets, fliers for the elementary school and created a Facebook page (OFHS Greenhouse) where customers can view plants prior to the sale.
Proceeds from the sale are returned to the greenhouse management project for expenses that include buying supplies for next year and updating the greenhouse facility.
