The Oconto Falls High School drama team began its competitive season over the weekend at the District Theatre Festival, sponsored by the Wisconsin High School Forensic Association, in Tomahawk.
The Panthers performed the one-act comedy “Superheroes: With Great Power Comes Ordinary Responsibility” to a panel of judges, earning a unanimous advancement to compete at the sectionals, hosted by Oconto Falls, in November.
For superheroes, saving the world is tough, but the time spent away from work is tougher. The Hulk has to do taxes, a crime-fighting sidekick joins a support group, and Batman goes stir-crazy without enough criminals to take down. This ensemble of actors and actresses become the famous and iconic characters from Marvel and DC Comics in a funny and fast-paced series of vignettes that explores how the caped crusaders deal with the reality of life.
Under the direction of faculty member Gayle Gander, the drama team consists of Brady Vrooman, Brady Vorpahl, Maddie Sprout, Holly Umentum, Brianna Ryczek, Jenna Langlay, Cortney Meunier, Haley Meunier, Aaron Stuiber, Gabe Grenke, Kim Schliep, Haley Pritzl and Alex Radke.
A public performance of “Superheroes” will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in the Falls Area Performing Arts Center.
Prior to the show, a lasagna dinner will be served in the high school commons from 5-6:45 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $8 for the dinner and show or $5 for the show only.
