Proceedings of Sept. 27
• The trial of Joey Vandewettering, 62, Town of Gillett, was postponed because of his attorney’s illness and removal from the case. Judge Jay Conley agreed to allow Vandewettering to represent himself at the trial and scheduled a status conference for Oct. 1. The defendant faces charges of first-degree sexual assault, false imprisonment, strangulation and suffocation, first-degree reckless endangerment and possession of methamphetamine, along with misdemeanor charges of battery, disorderly conduct, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Feb. 27.
Proceedings of Sept. 26
• After a two-day jury trial in Judge Michael Judge’s courtroom, Marty M. LaCourt, 35, Oconto, was found not guilty of second-degree sexual assault of an intoxicated victim, in connection with an incident that had been alleged to occur Aug. 5, 2023. The jury deliberated for a little more than one hour.
Proceedings of Sept. 25
• Bond was set at $4,000 cash for Brett Joseph Bertrand, 43, Abrams, after he was charged with felony bail jumping and misdemeanor counts of operating while revoked and possession of THC, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Sept. 24. Conley adjourned his initial appearance until Oct. 17.
Proceedings of Sept. 24
• Brad A. Vickman, 51, Abrams, was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison, followed by 14 years of extended supervision, for manufacturing and delivering methamphetamine, two counts of manufacturing and delivering amphetamine and maintaining a drug trafficking place, in connection with incidents that occurred April 10, May 5, June 1, June 23, 2023; possession with intent to deliver amphetamine and misdemeanor bail jumping, in connection with an incident that occurred June 16, 2021; and felony bail jumping and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with an incident that occurred Aug. 5, 2021. He received credit for 560 days already served in the county jail. Judge ruled that after serving 6½ years, he may enter the Substance Abuse Program, which can lead to early release upon successful completion.
• Raquel R. Shampo, 38, Oconto, was placed on three years of probation after Judge withheld sentencing on four counts of misappropriating ID information to obtain money and 12 counts of misdemeanor bail jumping, in connection with incidents that occurred in August and September 2023. Conditions of probation include the 180 days she had already served in the county jail.
• Jessie James VanDreel, 31, Sobieski, was placed on one year of probation with conditions after Conley withheld sentencing on misdemeanor charges of battery and two counts of disorderly conduct in connection with an incident that occurred June 20, 2023. Two related felony counts had been dismissed but read into the record.
• A bench warrant was issued for Cody James Meyer, 36, Oconto Falls, after he failed to appear for a status conference on charges of a sex registry violation, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred July 13, 2023, as well as possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor counts of possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Dec. 15, 2022.
Proceedings of Sept. 23
• Kevin James Landree, 43, Marinette, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was bound over on charges of taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred April 9. Conley scheduled arraignment for Oct. 17.
• Alyssa M. Vanstraten, 32, Gillett, waived her right to a preliminary hearing and was bound over on two counts of felony bail jumping and a misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer, in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred Sept. 11. Conley scheduled her arraignment for Oct. 17.
