Wisconsin had 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending Aug. 30, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Dry conditions persist across much of the state. Potatoes were being harvested, and a little fall tillage was starting to take place.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 15% very short, 28% short, 56% adequate and 1% surplus.
Subsoil moisture condition rated 11% very short, 27% short, 61% adequate and 1% surplus.
Corn in the dough stage reached 85% compared to the 5-year average of 80%. Corn in the dent stage reached 38%. Five percent of the corn crop was mature. Corn for silage harvest was 5% complete compared to the average of 3%. Corn condition was 62% good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
Soybeans setting pods reached 96% compared to the average of 93%. Five percent of soybeans were dropping leaves. Soybean condition was 61% good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week.
Oats were 90% harvested compared to the average of 88%.
The third cutting of alfalfa hay was 97% complete compared to the average of 92%.
Pasture and range condition was 45% good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
