The Legend Lake Property Owners Association’s mission is to preserve and protect the lake’s natural beauty, habitat, and residential and recreational opportunities.
“We govern the lake property owners,” President Steve Vanden Heuval said. “We enforce bylaws that were put in place when the lake was formed.”
The association got its start in the early 1970s on the lake that was developed in the ’60s. It is a 6-mile chain of spring fed lakes.
“We go a number of different committees,” Vanden Heuval said.
The architectural committee will revue building plans to be sure they meet with lake and county restrictions. Rental cabins, timeshares, hotels or commercial businesses of any kind aren’t allowed.
Vanden Heuval said there are typically five to seven new construction units a year, which includes not only homes but also garages, sheds and fences.
“We make sure the land is utilized properly,” he said.
Vanden Heuval said there are still many lots available along with back lots that have lake access where residents can fish, swim and moor a boat.
The Legend Lake Lodge provides a place for the Social Committee’s activities that help residents get to know each other. On Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings, they play cards, and the women have quilting at the same times. They also have potlucks, meetings and classes.
The lodge will host the annual craft fair and bake sale on Oct. 18. Proceeds will be used to buy items for the lodge, such as tables, chairs and coffee pots.
“There will be many new vendors this year,” chairperson Lisa Wilson said. “You can shop early for Christmas.”
The lodge can also be rented for lake residents’ parties.
Vanden Heuval, who has lived on the lake seven years, said a lot of lakes are getting associations. Property owners can meet several times a year and have a say in who represents them on the association.
The Legend Lake Property Owners Association includes a nine-member board with three-year terms. New executive officers are elected every year. Other officers are Stan Wilson, treasurer, Joann Rossi, secretary, and Tim Andersen, vice president. They meet at 3 p.m. on the second Friday of the month at the lodge.
