Homicide trial postponed to July
The trial of a man accused of shooting a Green Bay man and leaving him to die in a remote area of Little Suamico has been rescheduled until this summer. Manuel Antonio Herrera-Hernandez, 36, was scheduled to stand trial beginning Jan. 27, but the trial was postponed until July 29 during a telephone scheduling conference Jan.
Shawano boys go 1-3 in duals
Shawano wrestlers had a tough time of it Jan. 3 in Shiocton, going 1-3 in their dual matchups. “We met two very good teams in Slinger and Shiocton,” coach Mike Homan said. “Both of those teams have very solid lineups, and points do not come easy against those teams.
Shawano female wrestlers take 3rd at invigte
Shawano’s female wrestlers placed third at the Shiocton Invite on Jan. 4, finishing just 11 points out of first place. “I like the effort that I’m seeing,” coach Mike Homan said. “We just need to keep working to get better.” Gwyn Hermann took second place at 107. Adalyn Barkley also took second place at 145. “She (Barkley) wrestled well also and really put herself in good positions,” Homan said.
Ice Bears carve out 2 more wins
Jan. 4 Bay Area 6, Beaver Dam 0 The Bay Area Ice Bears enjoyed another shutout this season, blanking Beaver Dam 6-0. Hannah Von Haden had a hat trick, with one goal in each period. Julianne Bradford scored twice, and Emily Bill had a goal as well. Assists were credited to Addison Dahl (two), Bradford (two), Faye Brunke, Aisling Buchan (two), Bill and Tiana Stindt. Gillett library had a busy year
With the turn of a new year, Gillett Library Director Shannon Stoner’s attention turns to drafting her annual library report. “That’s always a fun time in every librarian’s life,” Stoner said as she introduced her monthly report to the Gillett City Council on Jan. 2. Among the numbers Stoner is crunching and juggling: 9,430 people walked through the doors of the Gillett Public Library, an increase of about 1,600 over 2023.
USDA reports farmers getting less for corn, soybeans
The average price received by farmers for corn during November in Wisconsin was $3.90 per bushel, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service Agricultural Prices report.
