“Dad, I only remember going to the hospital and having cancer. I don’t remember anything I ever did before being sick.”
These were the words of young Reed Luepke once told his father, Brad Luepke.
Michael Rogers takes local veterans to their medical appointments.
Rogers was born in Milwaukee and, after moving to Shawano, graduated from Shawano High School in 1984. He joined the Marine Corps and planned to make it a career until 1990 when he injured his knee.
First Presbyterian Church in Shawano has been the site of the monthly Community Dinners since December 2010.
“They’re going really well,” said Angie Wilber, who was instrumental in starting them.
Wilber brought the idea to the Rev. Susan Phillips of First Presbyterian Church, who told her to proceed. The dinners have grown since then with churches and organizations now on board to help cook and finance the dinners.

The farm is a busy place this time of the year, a flurry of activity. We are into harvesting our second crop of hay now and have just finished our peas and oats, bagging that and baling the second crop. I’m humbled and blessed that we have another abundant return. The moisture and heat together have made our alfalfa thick and lush in most spots.
Marcella E. Malliet, 74, of Shawano, formerly Clintonville, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Appleton Medical Center. The former Marcella Elaine LeNoble was born Oct. 7, 1938, in the town of Matteson, Waupaca County, to William and Imogene (Geer) LeNoble. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1956 and was united in marriage on March 2, 1957, to Loy L. Malliet at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville.
Our little slice of Wolf River backwater paradise recently added an inexpensive swimming pool. Our daughter, Kalispell, loves to cool off in this 15-foot by 4-foot-deep water hole.

Talon Gus Peters, 21, started his journey into the spirit world on Thursday, July 18, 2013, in Keshena. Born on July 23, 1991, at the Antigo Hospital, he was the son of Shawn “Boober” Moede and George “Fuzzy” Peters. Talon was a fun-loving father and a very free spirit who loved to play jokes on people and loved to dance and rummage.
