The Crossroads Community Theatre will be presenting Neil Simons’s “The Odd Couple” at the WOWSPACE in Wittenberg on Nov. 8 and 9.
The troupe is a fundraising offshoot of the WOWSPACE (Walls of Wittenberg Special Projects and Community Enhancement) and puts on two shows a year.
The November production is not “The Odd Couple” most people remember.
“It’s the female version,” said Miriam Nelson, who heads the troupe.
Dawn Meverden is playing Florence Unger, and Emily Johnson is Olive Madison. They are both experienced performers. Gary Clark, a retired drama teacher from Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School, is the director.
“This is the first time a full-length play is at the WOWSPACE,” Nelson said.
The group has been in existence for two years. The members of the troupe meet a couple of times a year. There are between five to 10 regulars who put on the shows.
“We’re a small troupe and we’re tying to get more people involved,” Nelson said.
Their shows have drawn people from as far away as Appleton.
“They stumbled upon us and came back,” Nelson said.
The theater group’s first production was a murder mystery dinner show, which Nelson said was very popular. Another murder mystery is scheduled for March.
The group’s main purpose is to earn funds to help the Walls of Wittenberg.
“We want to raise money for future murals,” Nelson said.
The murals began in 2005 when Walls of Wittenberg was formed. They have helped the village promote tourism and attract new businesses, officials say.
Crossroads Community Theatre productions are held in the WOWSPACE, 114 Vinal St. The building was donated to Walls of Wittenberg in 2006 by Joseph and Kathy Gwidt, who were operating Gwidt Pharmacy. The WOWSPACE is both new and old at the same time, having been refurbished, but still retaining its charm.
“The Odd Couple” will be presented at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9. Admission is $10. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. You can call for tickets, at 715-253-3525, or get them the evening of the show.
