Elaine E. Priem

Elaine E. Priem, 92, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2013, at the Cottages in Shawano. Elaine was born March 27, 1921, in Birnamwood, a daughter of the late Donald and Viola (Theis) Hicks. On April 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to Clarence Priem at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She was a good and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano and her deep faith sustained her throughout her life. For many years Elaine was a nurse at the Shawano Clinic, working with the late Dr. Donald Jeffries. She later worked at the Shawano Hospital as a nurse and volunteer hospice worker. Elaine loved being a nurse and caring for her patients. Following her nursing career, Elaine worked in the office at Heritage Hardwoods. During her retirement, Elaine devoted many hours to working in and managing the dining room at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her later years were devoted to caring for her husband, Clarence. Elaine was an avid sportswoman, enjoying both hunting and fishing as well as gardening. Many weekends found her up north at her cabin on the Pine River with her beloved Labrador retrievers. She and her husband were motorcycle enthusiasts. Elaine was greatly loved by her nieces and nephews. All enjoyed the picnics with her at Shawano Lake and Cloverleaf Lakes. Sunday dinner at Aunt Elaine’s meant delicious roasted meat and a sweet dessert. Nieces remember the dresses that she sewed for them. Nieces and nephews were always remembered by her on their birthdays and at Christmas. She was a loving, giving and gifted woman whose hands were seldom still. She played the organ, sewed, knitted and crocheted. Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Clarence; a sister in-law, Jeanne (Gerald) Barr, of Burlington; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Lee Hicks; brothers and sisters in-law, Leon (Joanne) Hicks and James (Patricia) Hicks, all of Rochester, Minn. A funeral Mass for Elaine Priem will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano. The Rev. Luke Ferris will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church after 9 a.m. Saturday until the hour of Mass.
