Gerald “Jerry” R. Sweet, 78, of King, and formerly of Keshena, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was born April 19, 1935, in Waukesha, son of Hallard and Ida (Oleson) Sweet.
Jerry served in the U.S. Army from January 1958 to December 1959 during the Vietnam War. On Aug. 12, 1961, Jerry married Susan J. Ossmann at First Presbyterian Church in Waukesha.
He will be deeply missed by all of his loving family and many, many friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Susan Sweet, of Keshena; daughters, Terri (Bret) Hughes, of Bonduel, and Renee Birkholz, of Keshena; grandchildren, Lynn (David) Pyatskowit, of Shawano, Laurie (Roger) Banaszynski, of Cecil, Craig Birkholz, of Bonduel, and Stacy (special friend, Tom Herman) Birkholz, of Bonduel; great-grandchildrenn Alex, Kesaehsa and Stormie; brothers, Art (special friend, Shirley) Sweet, of Waukesha, and Norman (Diane) Sweet, of Friendship; and brother-in-law, Jack (Suzanne) Ossmann, of Gillett. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hallard and Ida Sweet, and a sister and brother-in-law, Delores (Jack) Furrer.
A memorial service will be on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Main Chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Chaplain Rich Engle will officiate. A visitation will be held on Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Main Chapel in King. Burial will be at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
