The Shawano Community High School girls soccer team bested Denmark 2-0 in the first game of the Bay Conference tournament Thursday in Shawano.
Lindsey McFarlane got the scoring going for the Hawks (11-6, 6-2 Bay) with a goal four minutes into the second half. Megan Klitzke, who had the assist on the goal, scored her own goal three minutes later on an assist from her sister, Morgan, in front of the goal to take a 2-0 lead over Denmark (5-7-1, 1-5-1 Bay).
“It just kind of got through, and Morgan got a foot on it and tapped it to her sister,” Shawano coach Bob Croschere said. “She put it in the back of the net.
The Hawks spent a lot of time Thursday in front of the goal. Shawano goalie Carlie Hinnefeld had a quiet day, as the Hawks dominated the field position battle.
“We had a lot possession on their end of the field tonight,” Croschere said. “Carlie only had one save. I don’t know if she even touched the ball more than once in the second half, and it was just a ball rolling through.”
Shawano will advance to the second round of the tournament Tuesday, but a time and opponent were not set by the Leader’s press time.
