Muddy track cancels Shawano Speedway races
Shawano Speedway officials made attempts to get the Saturday night race in, but for the second night in a row, races were cancelled.
Rain late afternoon forced the cancellation.
“The season at the speedway is done. We tried to get it in,” marketing director Brad Luepke said.
Getting crafty with the Fairest
Ashley Bergsbaken continued her busy fair schedule by attending multiple events Saturday, including the horse show at the Crawford Center, Kids Klassic Pedal Pull underneath the grandstand and the dairy judging contest.
She added craftsman to the list of her duties when she worked with children in the creation of crowns and tiaras at the junior fair building.
Children assembled the crowns using foam cut-outs and personalizing them with their names.
Singing sensation joins Fairest
Bowler resident Brooke Breitrick has sang “The Star Spangled Banner” prior to every event.
Volunteers provide 24-hour animal care
Sarah-Baker Walker is one of the 4-H horse key committee members spending nights on the fairgrounds. Her duties include supervision of horses.
Walker conducts routine horse stable checks to ensure horses are safe and comfortable while they stay on the fairgrounds.
The horses began arriving Friday morning. Horse key committee member Diane Schnell watched the animals on the first night.
“We are just making sure they are happy,” Walker said.
Chocolate delight favorite in commercial building
Candy seems to be a hot item in the commercial building.
Chris Ciucci, owner of Old Glory Candy on East Division Street in downtown Shawano, said the experience has brought additional exposure to the business, which opened a year ago.
“It’s going good and lots of samples have been given out,” Ciucci said.
