The Shawano Community High School volleyball team earned a No. 4 seed and will match up against area rival and No. 5 seed Clintonville to open the WIAA Division 2 regional tournament Tuesday in Shawano.
The Hawks (2-6 Bay Conference) beat Clintonville (2-5 Eastern Valley) twice in the Shawano Invitational earlier this season.
The winner of Tuesday’s match will face No. 1 Notre Dame, which will have a bye Tuesday. The top-seeded team hosts matches throughout the regional. In sectionals, which begin Oct. 25, matches are held at predetermined sites.
On the other side of the Division 2 bracket, Wittenberg-Birnamwood (6-2 Central Wisconsin Conference-8), which finished fourth in the CWC-8 conference, earned a No. 7 seed and will open the tournament at No. 2 Mosinee. The winner faces either No. 3 Northland Pines or No. 5 Rhinelander, which play Tuesday.
Division 3
Bonduel (6-2 CWC-8), which finished tied for second in the CWC-8 with Stevens Point Pacelli, earned a No. 1 seed and will host a regional semifinal match Thursday after sitting out Tuesday with a bye. The Bears will face either No. 5 Crivitz or No. 4 Coleman, which play Tuesday.
Menominee Indian earned a No. 7 seed and will travel Tuesday to face No. 2 Wabeno/Laona to open the tournament. The winner will face either No. 3 Oconto or No. 6 Crandon, which play Tuesday, in the regional semifinal Thursday.
Division 4
Bowler (4-5 CWC-10) earned a No. 2 seed and will open the tournament Tuesday at home against No. 7 Oneida Nation.
Gresham (3-7 CWC-10) is the third seed and will host No. 6 St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday. The winner of the Gresham and Bowler matches will play in the regional semifinal Thursday.
Tigerton (5-4 CWC-10) is the No. 5 seed and will travel to face No. 4 Port Edwards on Tuesday. No. 8 Marion (2-8 CWC-10) is at No. 1 Wild Rose. The winners of those matches will face each other in the regional semifinal on Thursday.
