Hildegarde (Hinkel) Guilford

Hildegarde (Hinkel) Guilford, formerly of Shawano, passed away at her daughter’s home in E. Calais, Vermont, on Jan. 12, 2015. Hildy was born on April 12, 1918, to Robert C. Hinkel and Alma (Burmeister) Hinkel, of Cecil and Bonduel. She married Arnold Guilford in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1983. Hildy moved to Shawano in 1987 to be closer to her cousins and developed many strong friendships. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed counting money on Monday mornings. Hildy loved bowling, which she did into her mid-80s. She was a card aficionado, playing with several card groups. A crossword puzzle was always being done daily. She had great pleasure volunteering at the Bonduel Community Archives. Hildegarde is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Wayne Ohlsson; granddaughter, Sonya; great-grand-daughters, Kianna, Lekesha and Anna; and Cathy Frost, her grandson’s significant partner. She is also survived by her sister, Irma Sampson, of Viroqua; brothers, Arthur, of San Antonio, Texas, and Willard, of Milwaukee; and numerous cousins who live in the area. She was predeceased by her grandson, Jakob, and brothers Herbert and Leonard. There will be no formal services, per Hildy’s request. Please remember her by donating in her memory to Zion Lutheran Church, Shawano, or Bonduel Community Archives, 108 S. First St., Bonduel.
