To the editor:
From April 12-18, communities across the country will celebrate National Library Week, a time to remind the public about the contributions libraries, librarians and library workers make to their communities.
“Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library” is the fitting theme for this year’s National Library Week celebration. Libraries of all types serve as catalysts in their communities, offering opportunities for children, teens and adults alike to learn, grow and achieve their dreams. In addition to providing access to books, e-books, computers and other resources, public, school, academic and special libraries offer expert teaching and guidance to aid library users in their quest to open new worlds and change their lives.
Libraries have historically served as our nation’s great equalizers of knowledge, providing free access to information for all people. Today’s libraries continue this tradition, helping level the playing field by making both print and digital information affordable, available and accessible to all people. The range of information and services available to library users is unlimited – resources for job seekers, cultural heritage, genealogical collections, computer classes and a rapidly growing collection of digital resources.
Be sure to stop in for some great programs during National Library Week. The library will host “Afternoon with the Authors” on April 14 from 3-6 p.m. featuring 13 local authors and their talent. Children may enjoy a storytime for babies on April 14 at 10 a.m. or storytimes for preschoolers on April 15 and 16 at 10 a.m. The weekly program for teens will be April 14 at 3 p.m.
National Library Week is the perfect time to remember when it is time to make a change and improve your life, the place to be is @ your library.
