Edward G. Diem, 89, of Clintonville, and formerly of Tigerton, passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 27, 2015, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Marion.
Edward Gustave Diem was born at home on April 22, 1926, in the town of Germania, Shawano County, to the late Ludwig and Clara (Malueg) Diem. He was raised and attended school in Tigerton. As a young man, he helped out on his parents’ farm and did logging for several years in the Tigerton area. Edward entered the U.S. Army during World War II and served in an infantry unit from 1946 to 1947. After the military, he returned to the family dairy farm on Diem Road and continued farming for some time. He was also employed at FWD Corporation in Clintonville for many years, until his retirement in the early 1990s. Edward’s hobbies included trout fishing, deer hunting with the gun and bow, and playing cards, especially sheepshead.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Schwartz, of Gresham, and Carol Lehman, of Tigerton; one brother, Robert (Maribeth) Diem, of Appleton; one sister-in-law, Brenda Diem, of New London; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Edward is further survived by some special friends, Shelly (Craig) Dey, of Marion, Lenny (Debbie) Schmidt, of Marion, and Frank (Shelley) Flanagan, of Shawano.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eileen Kerneen and infants Edna and Marcella; and his six brothers, Harvey, Clarence, David and infants Lester, Leslie and Martin Diem. Edward was further preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Sadie Diem, and three brothers-in-law, LeRoy Kerneen, Bernard “Ben” Schwartz and Gene Lehman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton. The Rev. Matthew Uttenreither will officiate, and military honors will be provided by members of the American Legion Post 239, Tigerton. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King. Friends may call on Saturday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until of the time of the service.
