Cherry Shauger and Vicki Kielpinski recently donated a second series of their children’s books to the Marion and Clintonville public libraries.
It’s a series of nature books for children, and they are intended to be read aloud. The three newest books are “My Cousin, Chipper,” “Meet My Feathered Friends” and “I Looked Up Into the Trees.” They are primarily aimed for children ages 1-7 years, however others will enjoy the humor and the pictures.
The friends work as a team. Shauger writes the text. Kielpinski types and edits, and takes the photographs.
Each book contains a story about things found in central Wisconsin. Children see the antics of chipmunks and view water birds in their natural habitat.
People often are amazed at what else might be seen as they look around their neighborhoods, Shauger said.
All of the books have been self-published at Digicopy in Stevens Point. Each picture was taken in and around the Stevens Point and Marion areas.
The women have donated copies of all of their books to libraries in Marion, Clintonville and Stevens Point.
Shauger wrote her first book after taking a writing class in 2013. She decide the title would be “Cherry-Pie Tells All” because it’s about various incidents in her life. She also has published “Peace Corps Reflections,” a fictionalized account based on her time as a volunteer in Nigeria from 1966-1967, when a civil war broke out.
Shauger had been an English teacher before joining the Peace Corps, which she said was a way for her to serve her country and satisfy her desire for adventure.
