Veterans Day ceremonies in Shawano County include events this week in Shawano, Bonduel, Keshena and Tigerton.
In Shawano, a ceremony starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday inside the gymnasium at Shawano Community Middle School, 1050 S. Union St. A school band is scheduled to perform the national anthem as well as service songs and hymns. Dennis Bohm will be the featured speaker. Other speakers include seventh-grader Megan Herrmann and eighth-grader Makaylen Komettor.
That will be followed at 11 a.m. by a ceremony in front of the Shawano County Courthouse, 311 N. Main St. This will include another guest speaker and a ceremonial reading of the names of all local veterans who died in the past year.
In Bonduel, a ceremony starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bonduel High School, 400 W. Green Bay St. Veterans will be treated to high school band and choir performances, and student guest speakers will share their thoughts on the importance of Veterans Day.
The Veterans of the Menominee Nation will conduct their ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Park in Keshena.
In Tigerton, a ceremony is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Tigerton High School, 213 Spaulding St. Young children will hand out flags to all veterans in attendance, followed by a choir performance and a choral reading by students. Members of American Legion Post 239 and other veterans then will be treated to lunch with students in the school cafeteria.
Air Force veteran Arlo Dumke will deliver the keynote message at the Clintonville veterans recognition ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Memorial on South Main Street. All veterans are invited to a complimentary dinner on Veterans Day at the American Legion Hall in Olen Park in Clintonville. A cash bar will open at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
