The storybook “Why Should I Protect Nature?” will be read at the Holtwood Sporting Complex, 115 Holtwood Way, on Friday, July 25. This is the third and last storybook walk in Oconto this summer.
Ribbon cutting will be at the complex at 10:30 a.m. with the storybook walk to follow. Participants can enjoy a walk and the playgrounds and learn why it is important to protect nature.
Two other storybook walks are available at Oconto parks this summer. “Blue Sky Bluebird” can be enjoyed at Copper Culture State Park. The storybook is presented page-by-page along a walking trail from which several bluebird nesting boxes can be seen, along with resident bluebirds.
The nest boxes are part of a statewide effort to monitor and increase the production of the eastern bluebird and other native cavity-nesting birds in Wisconsin.
“I Planted a Tree” awaits readers at Bond Community Park along state Highway 22. Each page of this books sits by a companion tree, and the colorful images describe all the good things trees provide for people and wildlife.
The storybooks are geared to preschoolers and kindergarten children, but all are welcome.
The books will remain at the parks through Labor Day weekend and are sponsored by Bird City Oconto.
