Seven members of the Oconto Falls High School cross-country teams were named to the All-Bay Conference squad Friday, led by senior Mike Friedman and junior Bailey Wolf.
Friedman, who was selected to the team for the fourth consecutive year, was the top runner for the OFHS boys team, which won the conference title Oct. 16.
“We have been working really hard all season and the bonding has grown from year to year,” Friedman said. “We have become like a family.”
Other seniors earning conference accolades were Michael Fifield, joining Friedman on the first team; Liam Spillane, second team; and Luke Vrooman, honorable mention.
“The senior group has been a part of four straight conference titles,” coach Lon Ludeman said. “I don’t think Oconto Falls has ever had that. This is one of the better teams we had.”
Ludeman said Fifield, who was an honorable mention selection as a junior, was the squad’s most improved runner.
Sophomore Evan Konitzer and freshman Justan Konitzer both received second-team honors.
It was Wolf’s third year on the All-Bay team. She was the only member of the OFHS girls squad to earn all-conference honors. She finished third in the conference meet; she finished eighth as a sophomore.
“I think this year I was a lot cooler in the head, and was a lot more mental and grew up a lot,” Wolf said.
Wolf said she has adjusted well to the additional kilometer that the WIAA added to the girls courses this year.
“The last two years I raced 4K, but this year it is 5K, and am starting to like it,” Wolf said.
Jake Klister, of Shawano Community High School, was named the boys runner of the year in the Bay Conference, and Jacie Legois, of Luxemburg-Casco, received the girls award.
