An Oconto-area woman with strong ties to the Farnsworth Library in Oconto has been hired as director of the Lena Public Library.
Amy Peterson, of Little River, started work in Lena on Nov. 6. She replaces Becky Bartell, who was named director of Farnsworth Library.
“I’m slowing getting my feet wet and figuring everything out,” Peterson said last week.
The library’s three part-time employees have helped her transition to her new role, and people visiting the library are very friendly, Peterson said. The coziness of the small library is also something she appreciates.
“I love the size of it,” she said.
Although this is her first position as library director, she worked in libraries during her high school and college years and more recently, has been involved in the management of the Farnsworth Library.
Peterson served as a Farnsworth Library trustee for seven years and is currently the president of the Friends of the Farnsworth Library. She said she plans to remain president of the association through the end of the year to assist with the Christmas events sponsored by the Friends, but isn’t sure of her plans beyond that, now that she is working at the Lena Library full time.
Peterson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and computers from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2000 and is working toward her Wisconsin library director certification.
She previously worked as a substitute teacher and an office manager of Peterson Chiropractic in Oconto.
As Lena Library director, she plans to continue the programming already in place and add her own ideas. She also will be part of the effort to finalize an agreement between the village and town of Lena to share ownership of the library. The library is now operated solely by the village.
