President Barack Obama has sent a congratulatory letter to the village of Suring, which is celebrating its centennial this year.
The letter was issued at the request of Rhoda Ebersole, who published a book, “Seasons in Time,” about Suring’s past 100 years.
Ebersole invited elected officials to send their letter of congratulations to the village of Suring. The invitations were sent the latter part of August 2014, with the intent that the letters could be included in the book.
Timely respondents were Gov. Scott Walker, State Sen. Tom Tiffany, State Rep. Jeff Mursau, U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson and U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
In mid-December President Barack Obama’s letter arrived, after the first edition was published.

December 17, 2014
I am pleased to join all those celebrating the 100th anniversary of Suring, Wisconsin. This special occasion is an opportunity to reflect on the past and envision what is possible for the future.
Throughout its history, your community has woven its own thread into the fabric of our society and borne witness to significant events in our national life. Since your founding, America weathered the Great Depression and two World Wars, had its conscience stirred by Dr. King’s dream, and watched Neil Armstrong push the boundaries of humanity’s reach. During this journey, your community played a role in shaping our shared history and making our Union what it is today.
In the decades to come, our country must continue to join together in times of trial and triumph, to expand opportunity to anyone willing to work hard, and to pursue greater understanding among all people. As we move forward, let us remain steadfast in the ideals upon which America stands, and let us draw strength from our forebears as we build an ever brighter tomorrow.
As you celebrate this milestone, I wish you all the best for the years ahead.”
Ebersole’s book is available at the Suring Village Hall and from the Suring Area Historical Society. The cost is $20.
