The painters at New View Industries have been busy painting barn quilt blocks all winter for the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project. As soon as the weather is favorable, Oconto Electric Cooperative will schedule installations.
One of the quilt blocks will be installed at Golden Corners Dairy in Oconto Falls, host of this year’s Breakfast on the Farm.
Author Suzi Parron, who wrote “Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement,” has contacted local project coordinators Lynn Jones and Kay Rankel to inform them the Oconto County trail will be included in her upcoming book. The book will be released in 2016, and Parron plans to return to the area to promote its release.
Parron toured the quilt trail last summer and appeared at the Gillett Public Library for a book talk and book signing in June.
The Barn Quilts of Oconto County is creating a brochure that will include a map of all quilt block locations in the county, regardless of whether they were painted by the project. A person has approached project coordinators regarding sponsorship of a barn quilt at a farm along the route to White Potato Lake in northern Oconto County. Any Oconto County barn owner interested in this opportunity may contact Jones or Rankel.
