Ambulance raises funds for Jaws of Life

Members of the Oconto Falls Area Ambulance Service sold custom-designed T-shirts and candy bars at Witt’s Piggly Wiggly in Oconto Falls this month to raise funds to purchase an updated Jaws of Life unit. Fundraising will continue until the OFAAS raises $27,000 for the new equipment. The Jaws of Life are used primarily in motor vehicle crashes for the safe and expedient extrication of trapped victims. Due to changes in materials and designs of modern vehicles, outdated Jaws units must be replaced. The OFAAS carries Jaws of Life units in two ambulances, and these units are utilized by the many fire departments overlapping OFAAS territory. The OFAAS and Oconto Falls Fire Department took part in a Jaws of Life training session led by a representative of the Jaws of Life manufacturer. Members were instructed in the classroom and through hands-on experience. They had access to mock patients in vehicles. Anyone interested in purchasing an “I Support Oconto Falls Area Ambulance” T-shirt may call the ambulance garage at 920-848-2662 or contact a service member. T-shirts are available in youth sizes for $12 and adult sizes of small to 3X for $15. With the public’s support, OFAAS can better serve the residents of the service area and visitors passing through. OFAAS serves the towns of Morgan, Oconto Falls, Spruce and Stiles, the city of Oconto Falls and the village of Lena.
