People interested in learning how to safely install a child’s car seat are invited to a car seat event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 19.at Koehne Buick Pontiac GMC in Oconto.
Certified child passenger safety technicians will check car seats for safe installation, check car seats for recalls, answer questions and assist with the safe and correct installation of car seats.
New car seats will be available for $55 and booster seats for $35. In addition, grant-funded car seats will be available at no cost to eligible families. To receive a grant-funded car seat, the child must be present and must need a new seat. Free grant-funded car seats will be provided to families who qualify; however, donations will be accepted.
“Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated,” said Danielle Risner, Oconto County Safe Kids Coalition coordinator. “Car seats save kids’ lives, and we want to keep our program going as long as we possibly can.”
Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children under age 14. By making sure a child’s car seat is safe, parents help protect a child in the event of a crash.
