Wisconsin had 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending July 5, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Temperatures well above normal spurred crop growth while heavy rains fell across a swath of the state, impeding some field work.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 1% very short, 8% short, 79% adequate and 12% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 12% short, 76% adequate and 10% surplus.
Corn condition was 82% good to excellent, unchanged from last week. Soybeans were 20% blooming compared to the 5-year average of 22%. Soybean condition was 78% good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
Oats were 78% headed compared to the average of 80%. Oats were 29% coloring. Oat condition was rated 81% good to excellent, down 1 percentage point from last week. Winter wheat was 74% coloring compared to the average of 75%. Winter wheat condition was 80% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
The second cutting of alfalfa hay was 48% complete compared to the average of 49%. All hay condition was 76% good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from last week.
Pasture and range condition was 66% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
