The sale of of five foreclosed properties went better than expected, according to Shawano County officials.
Bids on the properties were opened July 15, after each site was advertised with an appraised value.
The total appraised value of the five sites was $108,200. They sold for a combined $193,787.99.
The highest amount received was for a site in Aniwa.
“This floored me, because I couldn’t even speak,” said Deb Wallace, county treasurer. “We got $113,000 for the meth property.”
The property is 8.26 acres at W18776 County Road Z. It had an appraised value of $80,000. It was the only bid on the property, she said.
A 23.5-acre lot on North Airport Drive and Lake Drive in the Town of Wescott, with an appraised vale of $3,200, sold for $17,100.
“That was another surprise for me, that we got that much for it,” Wallace said. “We had nine people bid on that.”
A lot and building at 519 Flint Ave., Mattoon, had an appraised value of $12,000. It sold for $26,770.
There were also two properties in the city of Shawano.
First, a lot on Weed Street sold for $5,350. The appraised value was $3,000.
Finally, a house and lot at 502 S. Andrews St., sold for $31,567.99. The appraised value was $10,000. There were three bids on the house and land.
The properties were seized after the owners failed to pay back taxes.
The difference between the appraised value and sale price will be refunded to the previous owners, after the county collects all of its fees for the foreclosure and sale of the properties.
