The Lena Public Library will play host to Stella, a Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth, as part of the library’s summer reading program, “Color Our World,” at 1 p.m. July 24 at Lena High School, 304 E. Main St.
This 90-minute program will offer attendees an opportunity to meet Stella up close and learn about these creatures. Following the presentation, there will be a meet-and-greet with Stella, allowing participants to interact with her and ask questions.
Stella was born and bred in the United States by a veterinarian with more than 30 years of experience in breeding sloths for zoos and educational facilities. She is very bonded to her handler, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for all attendees. The program aims to educate the community about sloths and their conservation, highlighting the importance of protecting these animals in the wild.
In addition to the sloth experience, there will be tables set up in the gym entry area for registration, donations and library card sign-ups.
The Lena Public Library supports The Sloth Conservation Foundation, aiding sloth rescue, research and rehabilitation. Attendees are encouraged to follow Stella’s adventures on Instagram @stella_the_sloth_ and consider donating to support sloth conservation efforts.
