Gillett Middle School sixth grade teacher Teri Carlson received the Richard T. Lowery Educator of Excellence Award for the 2024-25 school year.
The award is sponsored by the Nicolet-Oconto Retired Teachers Association, and the selection of the recipient for the award is made by the Gillett School District teaching staff.
“I would like to say thank you to my family, friends and colleagues for supporting me through this spectacular adventure,” Carlson said.
Carlson was a volunteer in the school district in the 1990s. She received the Gillett School District Volunteer of the Year Award in 1999. She earned her associate degree in arts and science with an emphasis in early childhood education. Carlson worked as a teacher’s aide with CESA No. 8. She worked with 3- to 5-year-olds in Keshena and elementary special education students in Gillett from 2001-04.
Carlson earned her bachelor of science degree with a major in education and a minor in psychology from UW-Green Bay.
She began her teaching career in Gillett Middle School. She taught sixth grade from 2012 until her retirement in 2025. She also served as the middle school student council adviser.
Carlson said what she liked about teaching was “getting to know my students and watching their growth academically and personally through the years.”
Teri and her husband, Randy, have two sons, Matthew, wife Stevie, and two grandchildren, Brody and Blake; and Thomas and wife Rachel.
