Just before he was scheduled to stand trial on a felony charge of homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a former Waukesha man agreed to plead no contest to forfeiture violations of operating an ATV or UTV while intoxicated and operating a UTV with a passenger riding in an improper way.
Scot A. Haas, 56, of The Villages, Florida, had been set to stand trial April 9 in connection with the May 29, 2022, UTV accident that claimed the life of David Weinmann, 56, of West Chicago, Illinois.
The crash occurred at the intersection of County Road T and Boulder Lake Lane in the Town of Doty. Weinmann was ejected from the cargo portion of the UTV when Haas accelerated, court records said. Weinmann fell onto the roadway and struck the back of his head.
Mountain Area Ambulance transported him to the Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo, where he later died of his injuries.
Judge Michael Judge levied fines and costs of a net $117.54. He ordered Haas to undergo an alcohol assessment and pay restitution of $5,431.93. Forfeiture violations carry no jail penalty unless the defendant fails to pay the fine.
