The 2025 Shawano County Land Conservation Poster Contest drew 176 entries from eight schools, with the 15 winners recognized at the March 26 meeting of the Shawano County Board.
“Home is Where the Habitat Is” was the theme.
Several winners also saw their posters advance to the Lake Michigan Area contest, and one earned statewide recognition.
“We appreciate the opportunity to recognize our area K-12 students for their creativity, artistic talent and dedication for our seventh annual Shawano County conservation poster contest,” Scott Frank, Shawano County conservationist told supervisors.
The 176 entries is the second most for the county, and the eight participating schools are the most ever.
The contest is part of a national contest, broken down to state contests, and in Wisconsin divided into eight areas. Shawano County is part of the Lake Michigan Area.
Olivia Kast, a student at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Shawano, won first place in Division 1 (grades K-1) at the county level and first place at the Lake Michigan Area level.
“She also got a third place at the state competition, which is our first state place winner for Shawano County in seven years,” Frank said.
Local winners in Division 1 (grades K-1) were Olivia Kast, Sacred Heart Catholic School, first in the county and first in the Lake Michigan Area; Kamryn Consiglio, Sacred Heart, second in the county; and Elli Farley, Sacred Heart, third in the county. Winners in Division 2 (grades 2-3) were Kayla Consiglio, Sacred Heart, first in the county and first in the Lake Michigan Area; Sylvia Deleon Anhalt, Sacred Heart, second in the county; and Evelyn Peeters of Bonduel Elementary School, third place in the county.
Division 3 (grades 4-6) winners were Colton Farley, Sacred Heart, first in the county and third in the Lake Michigan Area; Raelyn Krueger, St. James Lutheran School, second in the county; and Holly Gee, Sacred Heart, third in the county.
In Division 4 (grades 7-9), winners were Cristel Gutierrez, Tigerton School, first in the county and second in the Lake Michigan Area; Coraline Kropp, St. James, second in the county, and Ivy DuQuaine, St. James, third in the county.
Winners in Division 5 (grades 10-12) were Paige Treptow, Bowler School, first in the county and first in the Lake Michigan Area; Pamela Martinez-Avila, Bowler, second in the county; and Joshua Lange, Wolf River Lutheran High School, third in the county.
