Athletes capture firsts at track meets

March 20 Wausau West Early Bird 2025 Ethan May and Riley Hohensee had the best finishes for the Gresham/Bowler boys track team at Wausau West, both finishing fifth place. Hohensee was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute 7.83 seconds. May was eighth in 1:11.75, and Mason Martin also competed. May was fifth in the triple jump at 32 feet 7 inches. Hohensee was sixth at 32-5, and Leif Steffen placed seventh at 30-8. In the 55-meter dash, Cody Mehlberg led his teammates, placing 26th. Roberto Martinez and Steffen also competed. Mehlberg also led his team in the 200-meter dash, with Kobe Miller, Hohensee and Chase Stevens also competing. Darwin Sechrist was 14th in the 800-meter run, ahead of Brett Schreiber. Martin was seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 11.49 seconds, with Adam Gourley placing eighth in 11.87. Gourley was 10th in the 200-meter hurdles in 38.96, followed by Martin in ninth in 39.28. The 4x160-meter relay team placed eighth in 1:28.45, while the 4x400-meter team was seventh in 5:06.46. Miller placed sixth in the high jump at 5 feet, and Mason Wilber was 10th at 4-10. Miller also led his teammates in the long jump, placing ninth at 16-10. Also competing were Wilber, Mehlberg, Gourley, Martinez, Martin, Steffen, Sechrist and Schreiber. Addison Fischer led the girls team with a trio of top 10 finishes. She finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:16.44, fifth in the 200-meter dash in 34.02 and sixth in the 55-meter dash in 8.70. Alivia Perez was eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:23.87, and Roselynn Rosenow competed in the 55-meter dash. Emily Jensen finished second in the shot put at 29-10. The 4x800-meter relay team placed second in 13:00.00, and the 4x160-meter relay team was ninth in 1:50.70. Perez placed sixth in the high jump at 4-2. Cami Gourley was ninth in the triple jump at 25-0, with Rosenow also jumping. Fischer also placed 15th in the long jump at 11-11. Northland Pines Indoor Invitational 2025 Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Menominee Nation track and field athletes captured several top 10 finishes in Eagle River. Faith Resch led her Wittenberg-Birnamwood teammates and many other competitors in Eagle River. She placed first in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.48 seconds, first in the 200-meter hurdles in 30.13 and first in the high jump at 5 feet 3 inches. Kylee Beversdorf was first in the 200-meter dash in 28.73, and Harper Rogowski was first in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.97. Brooke Huffman finished first in the shot put with a throw of 31-10. Also earning first places were the 4x400-meter relay team in 4:26.78 and the 4x800-meter relay team in 11:44.51. Menominee Nation’s Lena Waukau won first in the triple jump at 28-7. Winning in their boys events were Menominee Nation’s Barron Waupoose in the 400-meter dash in 56.19, the Witt-Birn 4x200-meter relay team in 1:41.59, Menominee Nation’s Mikey (Aiden) Chapman in the high jump at 6-2 and Witt-Birn’s Landen Schmidt in the shot put at 45-2.
