Antigo 6, Waupaca 3
It was only fitting that Owen Dickman was the star of Antigo’s 6-3 win over Waupaca. Dickman is one of the top scorers in the state, and he didn’t disappoint in the last regular season game as he scored five of the Red Robins’ six goals.
Dickman scored right out of the gate, hitting the back of the net just 16 seconds into the game with the help of Eli Kassler. Ethan Novy assisted Dickman on another goal t 4:53 to make it 2-0 after the first period.
Kassler scored his own goal at 4:55 in the second period and then assisted Dickman on two more scores – at 7:18 and 11:28 – to make it 5-0 with one period to go.
The Comets began a comeback halfway through the third period, scoring three goals before Dickman closed the door on them with his fifth goal at 16:25; Kassler assisted again.
The Comets blasted away at the net, with 44 shots on goal, but Richie Veriha pulled out 41 saves. Antigo had 37 shots on goal.
The Comets were penalized twice for four minutes. The Red Robins were called for five infractions for 10 minutes.
In WIAA regional finals actions, No. 5 seed Antigo will play at No. 4 Northland Pines this week for a chance to advance to the sectional round.
