Snowmobile crash claims one life

A Mequon man was killed in a snowmobile crash Feb. 14 in the Town of Mountain. According to a news release from Sheriff Todd Skarban, at about 5:07 p.m. the Emergency Dispatch Center was notified of a one-vehicle snowmobile accident with injuries, in the Town of Mountain. A preliminary investigation revealed the snowmobile, operated by a 55-year-old man from Mequon, was traveling south of County Road W, on the trail near Bonita Road. It appears the snowmobile operator lost control after striking a signpost with one of the skis along the trail. The operator was thrown from the snowmobile, coming to rest in the east ditch. The man died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. An ongoing investigation in regard to this accident is being conducted by the Department of Natural Resources with the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office assisting. No other information is being released at this time. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Mountain Ambulance Service, the Mountain Fire Department and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
