Slow and sure wins the race is the old adage, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood showed that to be true in its 63-45 win over Menominee Nation.
“We got off to a slow start tonight and Menominee Nation took advantage of it,” Chargers coach Nick Mechelke said. “We got almost down 10 in the first half, but we just chipped away and took the lead into halftime. This was a game that we just found a way.”
At halftime, Wittenberg-Birnamwood worked its way to a 34-25 lead. A 29-20 second half cemented the win.
The Chargers were led by Rory Salvesen with 24 points and Melaina Granquist with 22. Salvesen had three 3-pointers, and Granquist connected on two.
Harper Rogowski had the only two assists. Granquist pulled down nine rebounds, and Salvesen had seven steals.
The Chargers are 8-0 in the Central Wisconsin East Conference and 14-0 overall.
Lena 48, Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy 39
A dominating second half by Lena pushed them over the top to defeat Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy 48-39.
Trailing 27-25 at halftime, Lena outscored their guests 23-12 in the second half.
Eva Brooks led the Wildcats with 15 points, followed by Kali Fischer with 14 and Madilyn Thomson with 13.
Hannah Thomson led the team with 12 rebounds. Madelyn Thomson had five assists, and each of the Thomson girls had three steals.
