A pair of Wittenberg Area Swim Program competitors qualified for the 2024 Wisconsin Single Age Sprint State Championships while swimming Dec. 14-15 in Mount Pleasant.
There were 38 swim teams from all over Wisconsin, with 803 individual swimmers. The swimmers were aged 7-12.
At these meets each swimmer, based on their age, competes with only swimmers of that same age, versus an age range, like 11-12-year-olds.
WASP sent Aubrey Wierzba, 12, and Peyton Crick, 11, coached by Kalee Gilmeister.
Wierzba placed 31st in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:18.10, 33rd in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:29.89, 35th in the 50-yard breaststroke in 37.47 and 36th in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:14.64.
She also had a state cut time for winter state, to be held in March 2025, in her 50-yard breaststroke.
Crick finished 25th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 27.66 seconds and 36th in the 50-yard breaststroke in 41.03 seconds. She also placed 51st in the 50-yard butterfly in 32.73 and 59th in the 50-yard freestyle in 32.73.
