Brillion, the site of a Dec. 13 girls wrestling tournament, was one of the first such tournaments when it was held four years ago. There were 23 participants that year; on Dec. 13, there were 171.
Among the wrestlers were 18 from Shawano Community High School.
Jacey Cowden placed first in a four-person round robing bracket.
Adalyn Barkley and Vivian Waldburger each place third in their weight divisions. Lily Tomas placed fourth, and Jenna Moede was fifth.
“I was proud of the fight they all had. Even though the girls are not placing, they are doing some really good things and are improving with each match,” coach Mike Homan said. “Adalyn and Vivian continue to work hard, and that hard work has paid off. They both ran into some very stiff competition on Friday night. This was Jacey’s first week of wrestling and she did a great job winning her four-person bracket.”
