The jury trial of a former Waukesha man in connection with a fatal UTV accident in 2022 has been postponed until April.
Scot A. Haas, 55, of The Villages, Florida, is charged with homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle and homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, in connection with the accident that claimed the life of David Weinmann, 56, of West Chicago, Illinois, on May 29, 2022.
The trial had been scheduled for Sept. 25-27. At a final pre-trial conference Sept. 9 in Oconto County Circuit Judge Michael Judge’s courtroom, District Attorney Hannah Schuchart said that a phlebotomist expected to testify at the trial will be out of state and unavailable during that time.
Defense attorney Sarvan Singh Jr. objected to any further delay in the trial, but Judge granted Schuchart’s request for an adjournment. Haas has been free since posting a $5,000 cash bond in 2022.
Originally Judge scheduled the trial for Feb. 19-21, but two days later it was rescheduled again to April 9-11 after it was learned an analyst would be unavailable to testify in February, according to online court records.
A telephone conference was scheduled for March 6 to discuss trial logistics.
