Pulaski 21, Hortonville 18
The Red Raiders opened the scoring with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter against Hortonville and then scored with less than a minute left in the game to seal the 21-18 win.
With 59 seconds left in the first quarter, Ethan Schmidt connected with Trevor Schuessler on a 6-yard pass as Pulaski went on top 7-0.
Hortonville scored twice in the second period and led 12-7 at halftime. They extended the lead to 18-7 with a third quarter touchdown.
At 2:54 in the third, Schmidt tossed an 11-yard touchdown to Joey Mijal for a 3-yard score, bringing the Red Raiders to within four, 18-14.
Then, with 24 seconds left on the game clock, Brock Weidman ran the ball in from the 2-yard line. A Miles Wippel extra point kick ended the game with Pulaski getting the three-point win.
Schmidt was 18-of-34 for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Schuessler led the receiving corps with six catches for 83 yards.
Pulaski’s run game was nonexistent as five runners carried the ball 23 times for negative six yards. Schmidt led the runners with eight yards on nine carries.
Bryce Wotruba had one interception for Pulaski.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood 26, Tomahawk 14
Wittenberg-Birnamwood evened its overall record to 1-1 with a 26-14 home victory over Tomahawk.
The Chargers will open CWC-Large Conference action with a home game against Weyauwega-Fremont at 7 p.m. Sept. 6.
Three Lakes/Phelps 34, Gillett 32
Gillett came up short in its season opener, dropping a 34-32 decision to Three Lakes/Phelps.
The Tigers will host Florence at 6 p.m. Sept. 7.
Alma Center Lincoln 28, Marion/Tigerton 16
The Mustangs scored 16 points in the first quarter as they jumped out to a quick lead, but Alma Center Lincoln didn’t roll over.
From there, the visiting team scored 14 points in the second quarter and another 14 in the third quarter to win 28-16.
Three Lakes/Phelps will play at Marion at 7 p.m. Sept. 6.
