Lena football team wins in shutout

Aug. 29 Lena/St.Thomas Aquinas 30, Niagara 0 Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas opened its 2024 campaign with a 30-0 shutout of Niagara. Oconto Falls 36, Peshtigo 6 Oconto Falls defeated Peshtigo 36-6 in non-conference action. Coleman 22, Bonduel 20 Trailing 22-0 in the third quarter, Bonduel battled back but came up two points short in its 22-20 loss to Coleman. The Bears put their first touchdown on the board on a 25-yard pass from Cade Johnson to Quinn Wesenberg. The two-point conversion failed. In the fourth quarter, Johnson tossed a 11-yard pass to Ryan Westrich for another TD, with the two-point conversion failing again. Another TD pass from Johnson to Sam Roberts from 30 yards out was followed by a two-point conversion pass from Johnson to Colin Fischer to bring the Bears to within two points. Johnson ended the night 16-for-25 for 239 yards and three TDs. Fischer carried the ball nine times for 16 yards. Wrightstown 57, Shawano 0 Highlights were few and far between when Shawano was pounded 57-0 at Wrightstown. Wrightstown scored 22 points in the first quarter (including a safety), 21 in the second (including an interception returned 35 yards for a score) and 14 in the fourth. There was no scoring in the third quarter. Jerzy Brocker completed 5-of-15 for 26 yards and one interception. Marcus Brezgel carried the ball 17 times for 73 yards, and Austin Heling caught four passes for 23 yards.
