Shawano’s County ad hoc building committee will hold its first meeting at 9 a.m. Aug. 28 in Room 7 of the county courthouse, 311 N. Main St., Shawano.
Committee members will discuss the history of the infrastructure of Shawano County and review the purpose and function of the ad hoc committee.
Members will also discuss new business that is requested for future committee consideration and set a next meeting date.
Members are Supervisors Tom Kautza, Randy Mallmann and Matt Pleshek; county staff members Grant Bystol, Scott Frank, Ty Raddant, and Ethan Schmidt; and citizen members Sam Crawford, John Jacobs Jr., Regan Mongold and Greg Strayer. Kurt Berner of the Samuels Group is the facilitator.
While it is generally acknowledged the committee will concentrate on the state of the courthouse, library, jail and sheriff’s department, some officials have stressed the committee will review all county-owned buildings.
Jim Davel, administrative coordinator, said earlier the committee is intended to take a broad look at building options. Those options include building new, renovating or maintaining the status quo.
Any recommendation will be forwarded to the public property committee and will not be binding on the county board.
Kautza, chairman of the Shawano County Board of Supervisors, said designs of any potential new building would be discussed only if the county board votes to move in that direction.
Davel expects the committee to meet four times — this initial introductory meeting, tours of the county facilities and others that show what could be built, a question-and-answer meeting and the final meeting to vote on a recommended path forward.
