Janet Mary (Matravers) Bartz, 78, of Oconto, passed away to the Lord unexpectedly Saturday, April 13, 2024.
She was born March 16, 1946, to parents Clair (Bo) and Alice (Carey) Matravers. Janet truly lived her life through the simplest pleasures.
She cherished her husband of almost 60 years, Darrell. They were nearly inseparable and were always found together. Her faith and family were her main focus and dedication. She truly enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, so she could feed them with all her great food and goodies. She loved baking and cooking, and everyone knew she’d have something ready when they got to Grandma’s.
Her daughter, Lisa, was her best friend and not a day went by without her calling to ask, “How was your day?” or “You need to rest; you’re working too hard!”
She had a never-ending worry for all. She truly enjoyed going out to dinner with her husband, family and friends, especially her class of ‘64 breakfast get-togethers.
She and Darrell enjoyed winter trips to Eagle River, snowmobiling with friends and also spent summer family vacations up north.
Throughout her working years, she had many different occupations, working in pediatric nursing and driving school bus for 25 years, following in her father’s footsteps, demonstrating her love of working with and caring for children. She worked at the nursing home and concluded her career at Cruisers. She kept busy with a few cleaning jobs after retiring. She was a hard worker and fanatic about cleaning.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Darrell; her beloved daughter, Lisa Warden (Brian Rouse); her grandchildren, Olivia Warden, (Jay Bosetski), Connor Warden and Beau Warden; her sister, Mona Matravers (Pete) Martineau; her four nieces, Belinda (Bob) Martineau-Darragh, Mary (John) Pealer, Marcia (Victor) Lieberman and Pamela Martineau; and her brother-in-law, Lavern Thompson, and his three daughters, Linda (Rick) Heim, Diane (Randy) Duffy and Lori Thompson (Joe Grahek).
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Ricky Lee; her parents, Clair (Bo) and Alice (Carey) Matravers; a sister-in-law, Beverly (Bartz) Thompson; and nephew, Dale Thompson.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, Sobieski, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024. A Mass of Christian burial will be co-celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Francis Nusi and the Rev. Michael Warden officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery.
